Request Custom Pieces

Custom or Reproduction Pieces allow you to have something that is unique. It can be designed by yourself or a collaboration between us or a collaboration with a third party. It allows you to design a new and unique design, modify a current design, and to choose a species of wood. Understand that often times the wood will dictate the final outcome and/or design and cost.

All custom pieces are quoted based on their size, complexity, the species of wood selected, and availability. The cost includes the above factors, and will include miscellaneous expenses, labor, packaging, freight, and insurance. Depending on the piece, it will be packed to ensure its safe arrival which may mean that the piece is double boxed (outer box to protect an inner box with the piece inside). If you decide to have the piece created a PayPal button will be created for 50% up front with the balance due when the piece is complete, but before it is shipped. The button will be placed on this page for your convenience.

To Request a Quotation for a Custom Piece

There are three ways to receive a quotation for a custom piece to be turned:

1. Send a picture: Using a digital camera send a snapshot of the piece in jpg format. Place a ruler or tape measure next to the piece with an edge set on the 1 inch mark. Take the picture as close-up as possible. Depending on how critical or precise the turning needs to be, more information may be needed.

2. Send a drawing: Draw the piece in a crosscut fashion as if you cut the piece in half. Include all measurements to include the length or height, the width for all coves, beads, flats, etc. You can either take a digital picture or scan it. What ever you decide the end result should be to full scale (1:1).

3. Send a sample: If you have a sample and want a precise reproduction, send it. If you want the sample returned include the amount for return shipping. If you decide to place an order, the monies sent will be applied to the finished piece and the sample will be return to you with the reproduction unless otherwise instructed.

When submitting your request: include your name, address, e-mail address, and telephone number. This will allow me to communicate with you for any questions related to the design, specific sizes, wood availability, time required to create the piece, etc.

The length of time to create your custom or reproduction piece depends on my schedule, availability of the wood selected, any needed parts (i.e. pen kits, etc.), applying the finish, and shipping time. In the case of pictures and drawings, the best way to send them is by e-mail.
